24.08.2015

A year ago, at the initiative of Palilula Municipality, a branch of the Center for Social Work "Sveti Sava" was opened in the local community building "Djuka Dinic". In this way, the Centre for Social Work with its services is closer to users. Over 60 percent of social assistance, according to records of the Centre, comes from the territory of Palilula and most seem to be Roma population. That was the reason why the president of Palilula Boban Džunić visited this settlement with volunteers of Municipal Youth Office, and donated vulnerable Roma families humanitarian packages with basic food and clothing.

There is a crowd in front of the Office of the Municipal Coordinator for Roma issues Igor Paunovic of residents of the Roma population. They are expressing gratitude to president Boban Džunić, director of the Center Zoran Jovic since there is someone who cares about them. Any help is appreciated, it is important to understand the problems that Roma people have today. Life in non-urban settlements, unemployment, education, adequate health care, discrimination, are some of the questions that daily management of Palilula consider while looking at the Roma population. According to president Boban Džunić, Roma people are equally involved in carrying out the policies at the local level, from planning to implementation. In our municipality has been published a Guide to the municipal government, the first of its kind in Serbia, in Roma language, also there is organized work of the Social youth center in the village of Red Star, we have established an Office for Roma issues and appointed a coordinator, says president Džunić. Today we spoke about the possibility that children from the poorest Roma families for the upcoming school year, could be provided free textbooks to facilitate their basic education.

This outpost, the first Office of the Centre, and so far we have opened another three in our town, has significantly contributed to the efficient operation of our facilities - said Zoran Jovic, director of the Center for Social Work "Sveti Sava" in Nis. We maximally saved customers time and we rationalized the job so we approached the customer -user service and faster solve their demands. Here on the ground itself - outised one can create a better insight on what is a priority.

As you can see, we continued our action at this location which according to the structure of the population is one of the poorest in Palilula. We will continue our humanitarian work and in other parts of our municipality - said Ivana Jovic, Coordinator of the Office for Youth of Palilula. She called on all people of good will and businessmen to join the action of young Palilula Municipality.
